Bean Counting 101 for Small Business
Do you really understand the financial statements you get from QuickBooks or your accountant?
- What is my balance sheet telling me?
- Do I really know what my P&L is saying?
- What is the "statement of cash flows"? Should I be getting one of those?
- What are "prepaid assets"?
- What are "accrued liabilities"?
- Why do I need to know any of this?
If you've ever asked yourself any of the questions above, you might want to attend Bean Counting 101, featuring Bill Harvey of Whitcomb and Hess CPAs. Whitcomb and Hess CPAs. In two three-hour sessions, we'll delve into these matters and more to help you hear what your financial statements are telling you so you can run your business more effectively.
Session 1 - August 16th
The first session will concentrate on the balance sheet. Most small business owners skip right past this statement and focus on the P&L, but that could be a big mistake. The P&L reports the past, but the balance helps to predict the future. Business owners need to review this statement carefully see what pitfalls might lie ahead.
Session 2 - August 23rd
The second session will focus on the income statement (aka P&L) and the statement of cash flows. We're all familiar with the income statement, but very few business owners know about the statement of cash flows. Have you ever asked your accountant this question when you get your tax return? "How can my business have made money last year when I have very little cash in my checking account?" The statement of cash flows answers that question.
Join us for this workshop that will take away some of the mystery which surrounds your financial reports, so you can use them to help make sound decisions to improve your bottom line.
These two sessions meet on Tuesday August 16th and Tuesday August 23rd from 9am to 12pm at the Braintree Business Development Center in Mansfield. It is strongly suggested that participants attend both sessions.
Following each session Bill Harvey will be available to conduct private one on one sessions should you have a specific problem or issue you would like to discuss. Please contact Bob Cohen at bcohen@braintreepartners.org or call 419-525-1614 if you would like to schedule time following a session.
