COLUMBUS – Today Gov. John R. Kasich announced that Andre T. Porter will become director of the Ohio Department of Commerce.  Porter currently serves as a commissioner for the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO), and he replaces David Goodman who was named Development Services Agency director last month.

"Andre understands the benefits that sensible, consistent regulation bring to Ohio's efforts to grow jobs.  At Commerce he'll apply the same smart, energetic approach he demonstrated on the PUCO and I'm grateful for his willingness to take on this new challenge," said Kasich.

Kasich appointed Porter to the PUCO in February of 2011.  As a PUCO commissioner, Porter dealt with the regulation of Ohio’s utilities and addressed business and consumer challenges related to the electricity grid and wholesale electricity markets. Prior to his PUCO appointment, Porter was a practicing attorney at the Schottenstein Zox & Dunn Co., LPA (now Ice Miller, LLP.), where he counseled commercial and industrial businesses, municipalities, and trade associations on energy and utility regulation, as well as real estate tax issues. Porter received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Capital University and his juris doctor from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.

Porter is a resident of Gahanna (Franklin Co.) where he resides with his wife and two sons.  Porter's starting date is April 22.
