Governor Kasich touts economic growth in State of the State address
By Josh Poland
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Governor John Kasich delivered his fifth state of the state address Tuesday evening in Wilmington.
The unemployment rate there hit 19-percent in 2009 when DHL shut down but has since improved to around 6-percent today. That type of economic growth was a major focus of Kasich’s address.
"The state of the state is getting stronger, and we've regained our footing,” Kasich said shortly after a standing ovation as he took the stage at the Roberts Centre. “We are better today than we were and we are rising.”

John Kasich makes big pitch for more income tax cuts and shift in tax structure
By Robert Higgs
WILMINGTON, Ohio -- Gov. John Kasich made clear Tuesday that while he thinks the state has come a long way in the last four years, he has no intention of taking his foot off the gas.
"We're on the move. We're rising," Kasich said in his State of the State Address. "It all starts with a strong economy."
Toward that end, Kasich made a strong sales pitch to lawmakers to support new proposals in his budget plan, particularly those that would further lower the state's income tax rates.

Kasich urges lawmakers to resist status quo
By Randy Ludlow
WILMINGTON, Ohio — Challenging balking lawmakers to overcome what he called special interests and the status quo, Gov. John Kasich used his State of the State speech last night to sell his vision of a better Ohio.
The Republican governor-turned-salesman-in-chief made the case for two of his high-profile state-budget proposals that are under attack: his tax-reform plan and his idea of how to redesign public-school funding to reflect the ability to raise taxes locally.

Kasich calls upon legislators to keep Ohio going forward
By Jim Provance
WILMINGTON, Ohio — Gov. John Kasich on Tuesday used a small southwest Ohio town to demonstrate that a resilient state is back on its feet even as he challenged lawmakers to have the courage to “follow the plan” to continue the progress.
“I believe the future of our state is at risk,” he told those crowded into a convention center in Wilmington. “This isn’t about John Kasich. ... The decisions we make now are the decisions that really affect us down the road.”
