Editorial: Mentoring applicants offer better prospects for children
Kudos to the nearly 200 applicants who have applied to take part in a new state grant program aimed at providing mentoring opportunities for disadvantaged students. The Community Connectors grants, totaling $10 million, are scheduled to be awarded in April as part of Gov. John Kasich’s push to expose students from school districts with high poverty and dropout rates to career possibilities.
State Superintendent Richard Ross said the level of interest demonstrated by partnerships of schools, businesses, colleges and religious and community organizations shows there is “a clear desire across the state to better connect our communities with our schools, lift up our educators, inspire our students and make it possible for more of our young people to enjoy the success each one of them deserves.”
