What They’re Saying: Supporting Our Veterans

“The Governor’s budget reflects a 30 percent increase in the War Orphans Scholarship fund. And, it does a great job recognizing the growth of applicants as a result of the of Iraq and Afghanistan wars in the second year of the two year budget.”
Disabled American VeteransCOL(Ret) James E. Leonard

“The Ohio State Bar Association’s Military & Veterans Affairs Committee pushed for the adoption of language that would require courts to consider military service and experiences when deciding to grant a Certificate of Qualification for Employment (CQE). We are pleased and thankful to see this provision adopted as part of the budget. With this change, more justice-involved veterans will be able to return to their chosen professions and fully transition back to the workforce after times of personal struggle and difficulty. This can help keep justice-involved veterans out of the shadows and allow them to more fully provide for themselves and their families. It will be a tremendous benefit to this group of veterans.”
Ohio State Bar AssociationMartin E. Mohler, President

“This budget provides needed funding for programs that find employment for veterans struggling from traumatic brain injury. This funding will help wounded warriors rebuild their lives, as well as educate the public about the challenges injured veterans face when returning home with the invisible wounds of war.”
