RED CROSS HOLDING WORKSHOP FOR NEW VOLUNTEERS

(UPPER SANDUSKY, OH, NOV. 30, 2015) The American Red Cross of Wyandot County is holding a New Volunteer Open House and Workshop on Monday, December 7, 1:00-4:00pm for people interested in becoming Red Cross volunteers. The event will be held in the Board Room of the Upper Sandusky Community Library, 301 N. Sandusky Street in Upper Sandusky.

Joanne Gilmore, Red Cross Community Volunteer Leader, says this is a good way to learn about the Red Cross, the services it provides the community, and how to get involved. “Volunteers are the heart and soul and boots on the ground of the Red Cross”, says Gilmore.  “There are so many ways that people can join the Red Cross team and help our community and this gives us a chance to talk with them one on one about those opportunities.”

There will be a brief presentation about the history and mission of the American Red Cross followed by discussions about the Red Cross lines of service; Disaster Relief, Community Disaster Preparedness, Service to the Armed Forces, Blood Services and Health & Safety Services. Attendees will get an opportunity to ask questions of Red Cross volunteers and staff and sign up for volunteer opportunities that interest them.

Some of the available volunteer opportunities include:  Office Support, Home Fire Preparedness, Disaster Action Team Member, Sheltering Team Member, Community Preparedness Education & Outreach, Disaster Health Services, Disaster Mental Health, Disaster Logistics, Disaster Government Liaison, First Aid Service Team Member (Youth & Adult), Disaster Services Technology, Event Planning, Fundraising and many more.

Those interested in attending the Volunteer Open House please RSVP by contacting the Joanne Gilmore at (419) 209-9834.  Walk-Ins will also be welcome.  For more information on how to give, get trained or get involved with the American Red Cross, visit: www.redcross.org/NCOhio or call (419) 422-9322.
