Latta Statement on Tax Freedom Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) today released the following statement recognizing Tax Freedom Day in Ohio, which marks the day when Ohio taxpayers have earned enough money to pay federal, state, and local tax bills for the year.  National Tax Freedom Day is set to occur on April 24, 2016:

“Tax Freedom Day gives America’s hard-working taxpayers the information they need to understand how much it costs to fund the government at all levels,” said Congressman Latta. “In 2016, Americans will pay $3.3 trillion in federal taxes and $1.6 trillion in state and local taxes, for a total of almost $5 trillion, or 31 percent of the nation’s income. It has been found that Americans will collectively spend more on taxes than they will on food, clothing, and housing combined. I remain committed to working with my colleagues to ensure taxpayers, families, and small businesses are able to keep more of their hard-earned money in their pockets, rather than in the hands of the government.”
