The Marion Palace Theatre Announces August Movie Weekends and 90th Anniversary Celebration Event
Movie-goers will have the chance to see two select films during the month of August at the historic Marion Palace Theatre located at 276 West Center Street in downtown Marion. Movie admission prices are $4 for all ages and $2 for current 2018-2019 PCAA members presenting a valid membership card.
August 17, 18, and 19 theatre management will show the musical comedy “MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN.” Five years after the events of “Mamma Mia!” (2008), Sophie learns about her mother's past while pregnant herself. Starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Amanda Seyfried, Christine Baranski, Lily James, Andy Garcia and Cher. “MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN” is rated PG-13 for some suggestive material and will be shown on Friday, August 17 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, August 18 at 2 p.m., and Sunday, August 19 at 2 p.m. (with open captions) and at 7:30 p.m. Run time 1 hour, 54 minutes.
Celebrate the beginning of the new school year and treat the kids to a fun family film at the Marion Palace Theatre on August 24 and 26 to see the animated comedy, “HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3: SUMMER VACATION.” Count Dracula and company participate in a cruise for sea-loving monsters, unaware that their boat is being commandeered by the monster-hating Van Helsing family. Starring Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, and Selena Gomez, this film is rated PG for some action and rude humor. Show times are Friday, August 24 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, August 26 at 2 p.m. (with open captions) and at 7:30 p.m. Run time 1 hour, 37 minutes.
On Saturday, August 25 at 7:00 p.m., the Marion Palace Theatre will rip back to the Roaring Twenties to honor the historic theatre’s 90th Anniversary. Patrons are invited to join the celebration and come dressed in 1920s fashion, enjoy a dance floor and music from the 20s, a well stocked speakeasy, and mug shots for those who partake in drinking bootleg booze. Light refreshments that feature flavors of the 20s are included with the price of admission. This entertainment filled event will include silent auction items available for bid throughout the night, a viewing in the main auditorium with the Buster Keaton silent film “ONE WEEK” accompanied by professional organist Dave Calendine, and a champagne toast to the next 90 years. Tickets for the Anniversary Celebration are $28 for current 2018-2019 PCAA Members. Non-member tickets are $29.
